Today, we’ve hit an incredible milestone—our immigration nonprofit partners have now sent one million text messages to their communities! Each message is packed with essential information to help underserved immigrants and their families stay safe, informed and prepared.
Before joining Mobile Pathways, I knew little about the powerful impact of bulk messaging. However, I had a deep understanding that underserved immigrant communities face profound vulnerabilities.Receiving timely information in their own language can significantly improve their access to essential resources and support. Bulk messaging provides a direct, efficient, and effective way to ensure that vital information reaches those who need it most, when it matters most.
How did this all start?
On January 10th, 2020, Mobile Pathways helped immigration attorney Jodi Goodwin send a vital text message to six refugees stranded at the U.S./Mexico border, victims of the harsh and cruel Remain in Mexico policy. This initial outreach ignited a chain reaction, as these six individuals shared the information within their communities, causing Jodi's audience to expand like wildfire. Her poignant text message videos, which illuminated complex immigration policies, rapidly captured the attention of thousands, creating a lifeline of hope and understanding for those in desperate need.
Seeing how far our team and partnerships have come since that first message fills me with pride and hope for the future.
And we know it matters.
In April, we conducted a comprehensive survey involving thousands of our message recipients, revealing the impactful nature of our communications.
Partners like East Bay Sanctuary Covenant highlighted that 4.3 out of 5 immigrants rated the messages as highly helpful. Impressively, 78% reported feeling more informed about immigration issues, and 65% indicated that the messages significantly aided in preparing for their legal cases.
One million texts.
One million points of light.
I reflected on this monumental achievement while at the Opportunity Collaboration in Mexico. My leadership coach reminded me and our group of the importance of honoring our achievements without minimizing them.
In immigration justice, our removal defense work is continually in defense mode against seemingly overwhelming challenges. Today, I’m taking a moment to celebrate.
Via our partnerships with deeply rooted immigration nonprofits, we’ve shared vital information one million times.
Here’s to a future of empowering many more, one message at a time!
